Perfluoroalkyl contaminants in eggs from backyard chickens reared in Italy

چکیده
Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are persistent bioaccumulative compounds with adverse impacts on the environment human health. Diet is one of main sources exposure to PFASs. Recently, EFSA established a tolerable weekly intake (TWI) limit (4.4 ng/kg b.w.) for mixture four major Eggs egg products can contribute this intake, their contamination possibly dependent husbandry system. Monitoring Italian eggs from backyard chickens revealed relatively uniform PFAS contamination, perfluoro-1-octanesulfonate being most abundant. Contamination was detected be significantly higher in than commercial laying hens, consistent previous study. According recently set TWI value, consumption could dietary PFASs (up 29% children, considering lower bound approach).

Twenty years of temporal change in perfluoroalkyl sulfonate and carboxylate contaminants in herring gull eggs from the Laurentian Great Lakes.
In this study, temporal trends and patterns of major C(4) to C(15) chain length PFCAs and PFSAs and some sulfonamide, fluorotelomer acid and alcohol precursors were determined in herring gull (Larus argentatus) egg pools. Samples were analyzed from fifteen collection years including 1990 and all years from 1997 to 2010, and from seven colonies located throughout the Great Lakes, ranging from re...

More recent research has primarily focused on the importance of different "normal" behaviors in relation to animal welfare in a commercial operation. Research indicates, for example, that laying performance of chickens is influenced by human interaction. Producers should walk through the laying house a couple of times per day, selecting times that fit into the flock's egg laying cycle, such as ...
متن کاملCharacterization of the Salmonella Isolates from Backyard Chickens in North of Iran, by Serotyping, Multiplex PCR and Antibiotic Resistance Analysis
The present study was designed to investigate the prevalence of Salmonella species, their molecular characterization and antibiotic resistance in backyard chickens. A total of 1125 samples were collected from backyard chickens in two consequent samplings. In the first part, samples were included of 820 poor recently hatched chicks, hatching residuals, egg shells in the nest floor, cloacal swabs...
متن کاملMolecular identification of Salmonella Infantis isolated from backyard chickens and detection of their resistance genesby PCR.
This study aims at molecular identification of Salmonella Infantis isolated from backyard chickens and the detection of their antibiotic resistance genes. A total of 46 Salmonella-suspected samples isolated from backyard chickens of northern Iran were collected. Serotyping was done by the traditional method and then confirmed by PCR. Antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates against 13 antim...
